Malaika Zweig -- AOD

Ten years ago I had the pleasure of working with Malaika in Los Angeles, so imagine my delight when I saw her recent show at JK Gallery in Culver City last week. The show featured new works done in ink on transparent polypropylene paper and flowed through the gallery space like waves of calm and intrigue. Her press release reads: "The invisible, imagined spaces, like floating helium balloons release us. Sometimes there are moments when you find such parallels in life's stories and images that all you can do is laugh and feel happy to be connected to people."

Hot Dog Phone

I wish I could trade in my new phone for one with a puppy in it...

E.V. Day -- AOD

Bride Flight, 2006.

Seeing Marilyn Manson last night made me think of E.V. Day's piece where she blows up and suspends bridal gowns and accessories.

CA Trees

To view the day as a growing tree, watching the tips climb toward the sky. I miss California.

Music Therapy

Just spent the morning recounting some of my favorite music therapy stories with my brother and then came across this article. Then there's this pic from another amazing article...

Kim Froshin -- AOD

Vogue's Flying, 2007

Froshin uses live models and makes them abstract their bodies to create works with curious movement. I wish I could post some of her yellow paintings, but this one was all I could find online. Love the strips.

Image Inspiration

Egon Schiele, Sleeping Girl, 1909

I go through so many auction catalogues and rarely do I have time to stop and gaze at an image...but this one struck my fancy. Makes me want to nap, babysit, listen to old time records and try using my watercolor set. Apparently I'm not the only one interested in Schiele's auction pieces.

Celebrity Bears

My love for bears has grown since the birth of Germany's new polar cubs. If you, too, are overwhelmed with delight when it comes to bears, then perhaps you would like to watch one of these videos. Don't forget pandas now (both red and regular)! One of many of my favorite panda cams can be found here.

Xavier Veilhan -- AOD

Le terminal, 2003

Today's featured artist, Xavier Veilhan, shines a new light on multi-media and French contemporary art. It appears that has dipped into nearly every kind of art-making imaginable. This photograph caught my eye in particular because I am obsessed with bear suits.
