Sketchbook
Sketchbook piece by Tennessee Thomas. "It was inspired by a very old book Z gave me called "The Heritage of Dress" or something an Edward Gorey child may have dropped on a walk."
I've decided since my sketchbooks have turned into random image printouts with no really personalized artistic twist, I'll be posting more from other people's journals in hopes that it can invigorate me (and others) to pick up a pen again...

Being Thankful
What a wonderful time to appreciate all the gifts we have in our lives. Perhaps you'd like to send a note to a friend telling them you appreciate them (while supporting amazing crafters)?!

Image Inspiration -- Crafty Plates
I'm head over heels for these handmade plates from Ninainvorm's Etsy shop. They make me want to raid my mother's china cabinet and spice things up a bit!

Image Inspiration -- The Economy of Words
I found this treasure in my journal today and it lifted my spirits like you wouldn't believe. No, not just because of my 31yr old brother's hilarious handwriting, but the story that came with this note. He had to write a speech for his best friend's party and said to me, "Sis, I'm just gonna buckle down and write it." When I came to check on him an hour or so later, this was what was on the page: "Thank you. I am honored to be part of this joyous event." And it wasn't because he couldn't find the things to say -- it was that he cared so much that he wanted it to be perfect. I just love that about him.
In Case you missed it!!
Actor Will McFadden lit up prime time TV this week on ABC's hit series, "The Forgotten" (episode: Prisoner Jane) Check out his scene with Christian Slater here online. I'll tell you one thing, his slam-dunk performance won't be forgotten!! I am just so proud!!!!!!!!!!
And now, the less crazy Dylan...
I still have this photograph on my wall from when I was in middle school. I can't believe I'm seeing him live TONIGHT!!
Ps. Do you have this album? With that one song Jolene:
"Well I found out the hard way, I've had my fill
You can't find somebody with his back to a hill
Those big brown eyes, they set off a spark
When you hold me in your arms things don't look so dark
Jolene, Jolene
Baby I am the king and you're the queen"
Bob Dylan - Must Be Santa
Getting fired up for his live show tonight in NYC!!
side note: this video makes me lose my mind-- not sure if it's the reason I haven't been able to sleep for 3 days...

Reading List -- Tao of Pooh
I haven't read this one in years, but it was like revisiting an old friend...and I could use some advice these days, so how about it -- any other goof book recs my friends?!
"Everything has its own place and function. That applies to people, although many don't seem to realize it, stuck as they are in the wrong job, the wrong marriage, or the wrong house. When you know and respect your Inner Nature, you know where you belong. You also know where you don't belong." -Benjamin Hoff

My Moment of Zen
As crazy as my rabbit is, it's surprising how calm he can be when emerged in water. Someday I will hire a photographer for the event, but for now, these buns will have to do.
The video, "Baxter Relaxes in Pool," has been the only thing keeping me going the past couple days. He reminds me to take a minute to chillax and go ahead. Bless his bunny heart!!

Yup, this is how I'm feeling today. No other way to put it, really. Could use some sunshine and a whole lotta sleep. But I am thankful for these amazing photographers for capturing the ambiguous and daunting glory of a grey sky.

Bauhaus at MoMA
"Palucca Tanzt" 1929, by Marianne Brandt
Oooooh does this look like a great exhibit -- a designer's and typographer's dream!! The NYTimes slide show had me drooling, and they quoted Nicolai Ouroussoff proclaiming: "'Bauhaus: Workshops for Modernity' takes a sledgehammer to the clichés and restores its historical subject to vivid life." Check out the MoMA blog post by earth-shattering graphic designer August Heffner here.

The exhibit started yesterday and runs through January 25, 2010

Pet Portraits - A Tribute
At the small-dog run in Washington Square Park, a stern but free-spirited pug sits for a portrait by Dick Sebastian. He is retiring from his favorite pastime and moving to Ohio. A lovely tribute to him in the NYTimes here

Art Review -- Sebastian's Voodoo
Director Joaquin Baldwin haunts and inspires with the scary yet touching short film, "Sebastian's Voodoo." I am obsessed with all 3 1/2 minutes of it. Watch the film here
